DESCRIPTION:This workshop is delivered in Spanish.  \nEste taller ofrece a los educadores de programas de dos idiomas un espacio de aprendizaje profesional centrado en las mejores prácticas para la instrucción de lectoescritura en el contexto bilingüe. Through the analysis of instructional materials and the application of multiliteracies strategies\, participants will examine how intentional instruction can strengthen literacy development in both languages.   \nFramed by the instruction strand of CAL’s Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education\, 3rd edition\, the workshop invites participants to reflect critically on their own practice\, identify opportunities to make explicit cross-linguistic connections\, and design learning experiences that honor and leverage the full linguistic repertoire of emergent bilingual students.   \nObjectives:  \n\nEvaluate instructional practices and materials using the indicators from the instruction strand of CAL’s Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education\, 3rd edition\, to identify high-quality bilingual literacy practices.  \n\n\nApply translanguaging pedagogy and multiliteracies strategies to support oracy\, productive skills\, and cross-linguistic literacy transfer between the two program languages. \n\n\nDesign learning experiences that integrate oracy\, contrastive analysis\, and metalinguistic awareness to strengthen bilingual literacy in grades K-8.  \n\nAgenda  \n\nWelcome and Framing  \n\n\nEvaluating Instructional Practices and Materials \n\n\nTranslanguaging and Multiliteracies in Practice \n\n\nDesigning Bilingual Learning Experiences \n\n\nClosing: Critical Reflection and Next Steps \n\n\n\nCost\n\nEarly bird pricing (individual): $350 per person if registered by July 15\, 2027\nStandard individual rate: $400 per person for registrations after July 15\, 2027\nGroups of 2 or more qualify for the early bird rate of $350 per person\nCost includes all digital training materials and a mailed hard copy of the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education 3rd Edition book\, provided we have your mailing address\nRegister early—space is limited\nRegistration closes on July 30\, 2027\n\nVenue\nThis institute will be held online.
